Lawyers in the June 2007 issue

the summer 2007 issue of
Washington Law and Politics.
March 2007
We continue to obtain
significant wins on behalf of
our clients…
Jim
Shaker and
Robin Schachter, along with
the hard work of
Faith Garrick and many
others, recently received an
attorneys' fee and cost award on
behalf of our client which
provided for almost everything
requested. This award included
fees for work performed by
professionals, including
attorneys and accountants prior
to Ryan Swanson being retained,
as well as for the work
performed by the client (at an
hourly rate) in preparing all
the accounting summaries.
John Bender and
Gulliver Swenson had a nice
win in a JDR arbitration in
which the plaintiff sought
$300,000 for franchise act
violations. The arbitrator found
in favor of our client after a
three-day hearing. Valerie
Dominique and Virg Ramirez
played a big part in compiling
the documents and materials for
the hearing.
John Petrie and
Roger Kindley finally
managed to get over $3,000,000
for our condo clients so that
they can fix their homes after
nearly 6 years of litigation. We
won in the trial court, the
Court of Appeals and were
awaiting a decision on a
petition for review from the
Supreme Court when the insurance
company finally blinked and paid
almost the whole judgment.
Bob Curran recently obtained
a $3,000,000 jury verdict in
favor of a homeowner's
association for defective
construction. After the verdict,
he obtained an award of
attorneys' fees, costs and
prejudgment interest for another
$1,900,000 against the
subcontractor whose work caused
significant moisture intrusion
into the entire condominium
project.
John Bender and
Kristin Meier obtained a
summary judgment on behalf of
our client finding the defendant
liable for securities law
violations and
misrepresentations. This is
almost unheard of since there
are usually all types of factual
issues involved, but Kristin's
fine work focused attention on
the defendant's previous
securities law violations
claiming they had to be
disclosed as a matter of law.
The court agreed.
We practice as a firm. These
nice results could not be
obtained without the great work
of legal secretaries, legal
assistants, copy people and
messengers.
